Why do we come back from vacation more tired and bloated than ever? (And how to avoid it)

Admit it. You've been dreaming of this moment for months: beach, pool, beach bar, and a "do not disturb" sign hanging on your forehead. You're leaving with a suitcase full of excitement and a clear idea in mind: to disconnect, rest, and reset your body.
Or so we always tell ourselves...
My summer confession: when holidays need a holiday
I'll tell you confidentially: it happened to me every year. I went on holiday with the wonderful intention of taking care of myself, relaxing, and coming back feeling brand new. But the reality of summer is what it is: your schedule gets out of whack, dinners go on forever, more ice creams than usual are eaten, and beach bars become your second home.
The result? I came home worse than ever.
I returned with a horrible heaviness, a super bloated stomach (everything I ate upset me), and a frightening feeling of physical and mental exhaustion. It's frustrating to go on holiday to rest and come back feeling like you need another holiday to recover from the holiday.
Does this sound familiar?
The big mistake: disconnecting from what's good for you
After going through this several summers in a row, I realised the big mistake we make. We think that to disconnect from the work routine and obligations, we also have to disconnect from everything that feels good to our body. We break with everything.
But think about it: the mini-habits that take care of you should never go on holiday.
Taking care of your digestion, your inflammation, and your rest is not an obligation you have to "escape" from; it's the life insurance that allows you, precisely, to enjoy summer 100% and without stomach aches.
The "survival kit" for your body this summer
For me, the secret to not returning from holidays feeling ruined comes down to 4 mini-habits that cost nothing and change the rules of the game:
-
Drink water like there's no tomorrow: In summer, we sweat more, and if you get dehydrated, your body retains fluids, and your intestine becomes sluggish (hello, holiday constipation). Try to always carry a bottle with you before ordering a soft drink or beer at the beach bar.
-
Move your body (even a little): You don't need to spend two hours at the hotel gym, but don't go from your sofa at home to a beach hammock without moving. A long walk along the seashore, a swim, or walking to places instead of driving activates your metabolism and helps your digestion not stagnate.
-
Don't neglect rest: Poor or irregular sleep directly inflames the body. Try not to let late-night schedule chaos completely destroy your sleep hours.
-
Your essential item in your suitcase: And this is where my Golden Milk comes in. It takes up no space, is prepared in a minute, and is the perfect complement to all of the above. It has become my natural shield to counteract summer excesses without having to pay the price of post-holiday sluggishness.
How to enjoy summer without neglecting your body
Look at it the way I do now: it's not about being on a diet at the beach, or counting calories, or making plans with friends miserable. Not at all! It's simply about giving yourself one moment a day to counteract summer excesses.
A cup of Golden Milk (which in summer is incredibly good chilled with ice) helps you to:
-
Reduce inflammation caused by changes in diet.
-
Relieve heaviness and improve sluggish digestion after late dinners.
-
Maintain your energy to make the most of every day at the beach or sightseeing.
Enjoy the sea, the sun, the terraces, and doing absolutely nothing. But trust me, take your Golden with you. Your body (and especially your stomach) will thank you immensely when you return.
Because holidays end... but good things should never go on holiday.
I want to get my Golden Milk for these holidays!
